Only Trash Litters

Friday, November 9.  From Waycross GA to Brunswick GA.  Stage 49 of 51.

Some quotes are best in context.  The heading of this blog post is one of them.  We saw this on bumper stickers, yard signs and a billboard, in Florida, Alabama and Georgia:  "Only Trash Litters".  And pays fines from $100 to $1,000.

About 60 miles for Jody.  About 22 miles in an hour and a half for me.  Both of us pretty tired, and glad for a shorter day's ride.

Jody and Nicole stopped to talk to the peanut boiler.  Ever had boiled peanuts?  We all have now.  I'd had them in Savannah years ago, and knew enough to pass.  Jody and Nicole?  A new experience for them.  I think we all agreed - once was enough.

We've become experts on rumble strips - and every state has its own take.  Our least favorite are the wide, continuous rumble strips that cover nearly the full width of what would otherwise be a shoulder wide enough for bikes.

Better are the ones where there's plenty of room for riders - on either side of the rumble strip.  I don't care.  Just give me more than 12-18 inches, and I'm a happy rider.

Here's one I don't mind either:

It was a long day, even though the route wasn't particularly long.  We're approaching the Atlantic and the end of the ride.  Jody has ridden ever inch so far, with the exception of the tunnel in Zion National Park (bikes prohibited) and the ferry from Missouri to Kentucky, just past where they done blowed the levee.  Bikes don't float as well as ferries.

After this journey - and I don't mean just the riding bikes part - nothing will seem impossible.

Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.
