Gateway to the West (even though we're going East)

From Janie:

Tuesday, October 16.  We return from Iowa City IA to Festus MO.  We get back on the bikes tomorrow.

We just had four rest days in Iowa City - sleeping in our own bed, eating our own cooking, spending time with Theo.  And a day or two at the office.  We're now back in Festus MO, where we ended our ride on Thursday of last week.

This morning, we packed up The Little Darkness again, and headed to St. Louis to pick up Peter, who had started with us in California in August.

Sunrise, from our back deck at home.

Our garden, put to bed for the winter.

After we picked up Peter, we went to see the Arch, otherwise known as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial or the Gateway to the West.  Jody and I rode up the tram to the 630-foot high top of the arch.  We were so excited, we forgot to take pictures of the Arch itself, but here are pictures from the observation deck at the top of the Arch:

Where the St. Louis Cardinals play, in the distance.

I can't believe Jody talked me into this.
And that Lizard Brain hasn't fainted!

The view, directly to the west, of downtown St. Louis.

Jody, looking out at the City of St. Louis.

Sunrise tomorrow is about 7:15.  We plan to be on the bikes by 7:00, hoping to beat the worst of the rain and wind expected to come our way tomorrow.

Get a bicycle. You will certainly not regret it, if you live.
